EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced on Tuesday the acquisition of defender Stefan Mueller via transfer from USL League One club South Georgia Tormenta FC for an undisclosed fee. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Mueller closed out the 2021 USL League One season as the fourth-leading scorer for Tormenta FC, serving as an attacking defender. The 26-year-old recorded four goals, one assist and 13 chances created in 18 appearances for Tormenta FC during the past season, while defensively he had 21 clearances, eight tackles, and 11 interceptions.

“Stefan is a strong and solid defender with a very good mentality to defend and attack on the left side of the field,” said RGV FC Sporting Director and Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. “His movement and runs are very smart and important for the team.”

Mueller joined Tormenta FC in 2020 following a collegiate career at Temple University. He made 34 appearances and played 2,780 minutes over the last two seasons. The New York native saw early career experience in Europe with TB Uphusen in Germany and Southport FC of England’s National League North.
