Veteran Defender Liam Doyle Among New Arrivals for Galaxy II

LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy II today six new signings ahead of the start of the 2022 USL Championship with veteran defender Liam Doyle and Belize international Michael Salazar among the arrivals at Dignity Health Sports Park for the new season.

Doyle and Salazar are joined by goalkeeper Eric López, defenders Dante Campbell and Chandler Vaughn, and midfielder Callum Johnson. Both Lopez and Campbell bringing prior USL Championship experience, while Vaughn and Johnson are set to join the professional ranks this season after being selected by the LA Galaxy in the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

A veteran of six seasons in the Championship, Doyle most recently competed for Indy Eleven to conclude the 2021 season on loan from San Antonio FC. A native of the Isle of Man, the 29-year-old has recorded 130 appearances in the Championship’s regular season while logging 10,974 minutes of action as well as four goals and seven assists in the league.

Salazar arrives in LA having recorded 18 goals and six assists in 67 appearances in the Championship’s regular season during his career. This past season he competed for Memphis 901 FC and notched six goals and two assists to help the side reach the USL Championship Playoffs for the first time. Capped 15 times for Belize, the 29-year-old notched the lone hat trick of his professional career against Los Dos for Rio Grande Valley FC during the 2019 season.

Campbell brings experience from both the Championship and League One to his new club, having joined Toronto FC II from the TFC Academy initially in the 2016 season. The 22-year-old made 34 appearances in the Championship for TFC II and another 35 in USL League One. Additionally, he also competed on loan in 2020 with Canadian Premier League club Valour FC.

Lopez has made 44 appearances for the Galaxy II since the start of the 2016 season, recording 156 saves. A former United States U-20 international, the 22-year-old has spent the past two seasons with the Galaxy and now remains part of the club’s organization as one of five Academy products signed to a professional contract on the club’s roster for the 2022 season.  

The new arrivals will join up with a collection of key players from the Galaxy II’s 2021 USL Championship campaign include Preston Judd, who led the team and ranked sixth in the USL Championship with 17 goals scored last season, and Josh Drack, who ranked tied for fifth in the league and led the club with nine assists in 2021.
