Turks and Caicos international has 30 goals in Championship’s regular season over career

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed veteran Turks and Caicos international Billy Forbes ahead of its first season in the USL Championship. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

The 31-year-old most recently competed for fellow Championship club Miami FC, where he recorded seven goals and four assists in 25 appearances while helping the South Florida club reach the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs. Overall, he has recorded 30 goals and 18 assists in 115 regular season appearances in the Championship over his career.

Forbes joined the professional ranks midway in 2014 with the San Antonio Scorpions after competing for two seasons in USL League Two, including a 2013 campaign in which he recorded seven goals and three assists for the Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors. In 2017 he joined the USL Championship’s San Antonio FC and earned All-League Second Team honors after notching 10 goals and nine assists while leading the side to a second-place finish in the Western Conference.

Since then, Forbes has also competed in the Championship for Phoenix Rising FC as the side reached the USL Championship Final in 2018 while also seeing action for Austin Bold FC and Miami a season ago. In addition to his club success, Forbes has also recorded eight goals and five assists in 16 appearances for his native Turks and Caicos, for which he made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2008.
