Defender arrives via transfer from SAS Epinal, brings MLS experience with Galaxy

New San Antonio FC acquisition Diedie Traore brings experience from both Major League Soccer and the USL Championship to his new club.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Thursday the club had acquired defender Diedie Traore via transfer from French side SAS Epinal pending league and federation approval. Per team policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We are thrilled to welcome Diedie to the team,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “He is a powerful and explosive left-wingback who excels in attacking and defending one vs. one duels – an ideal fit for our game model. Diedie is an exceptional talent who is highly motivated and has the potential to have a breakout season.”

Prior to spending 2021 with SAS Epinal, the native of France spent time in MLS with the LA Galaxy. Traore joined the club after a strong showing at an open tryout in January of 2018, splitting time between LA Galaxy II and the club’s U-19 academy team. In May of 2019, Traore earned an MLS contract and made his first top-flight start on April 28 against Real Salt Lake.

The defender made two more starts with the Galaxy in 2019, appearing in four total matches with 220 minutes played, while 2020 saw Traore appear in six matches with the Galaxy. Overall from 2018-20, Traore appeared in 18 matches (16 starts) for LA Galaxy II, tallying six assists and a goal over that span.
