PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC got first-half goal by Russell Cicerone and Dane Kelly to earn a second consecutive preseason win against a USL Championship rival with a 2-0 victory against Indy Eleven on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.

The Hounds almost struck just 60 seconds into the match as Jelani Peters got on the end of the game’s first corner kick but the Trinidad and Tobago international’s header struck the top of the crossbar. While the hosts carried the early play, though, Indy was able to threaten as well and forced a pair of early saves.

Cicerone put the Hounds ahead in the 25th minute when he broke in behind the left side of the defense. Pittsburgh’s leading scorer from a season ago showed his usual patience in the box, waiting for the trailing defender to run past before dribbling around the goalkeeper and rolling his finish into the net for his second goal this preseason.

Kelly doubled the lead with his second preseason goal nine minutes as he got on the end of a long ball directly down the middle from Mekeil Williams before delivering a deft chip over the oncoming goalkeeper.

Indy nearly got on the board in the final minute of the first half when midfielder Nicky Law got loose overlapping down the left side. Law’s curling shot from the top of the penalty area hit the crossbar, and the rebound attempt was saved.

One of the Hounds’ trialists provided the highlight of the second half. After being whistled for a foul coming off his line, goalkeeper Chase Vosvick denied Indy’s Stéfano Pinho’s penalty kick, preserving the clean sheet.
