New arrival claimed College Cup with Marshall, was C-USA Defender of the Year last fall

New Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC signing Nathan Dossantos helped Marshall University claim the NCAA Division I College Cup title in the spring of 2021.

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Friday it had signed defender Nathan Dossantos to a one-year contract with a club option for 2023. The deal is pending league and federation approval.

Dossantos was an NCAA Division I champion at Marshall, where he made 36 appearances over two seasons. This past January, he was selected in the Second Round (46th overall) of the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Orlando City SC and will now join the Hounds to begin his professional career.

“Nate is a player who can play multiple positions, reads the game well and is comfortable on the ball,” said Hounds Head Coach Bob Lilley. “We are confident he will adapt quickly to our style of play and look forward to working with him here in Pittsburgh for the 2022 USL Championship season.”

Dossantos is another player making a return to Pittsburgh, as the Oakville, Ontario native began his college career at Duquesne, where he played two seasons before transferring to Marshall.

With the Thundering Herd, Dossantos played every minute of Marshall’s stunning NCAA championship run in the spring of 2021 in which the unseeded team knocked out No. 1 Clemson on penalties before winning the title with three straight 1-0 wins against No. 8 Georgetown, North Carolina and No. 3 Indiana. He was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team, which capped a season in which Marshall allowed only eight goals in 18 total matches.

Dossantos was a two-time All-Conference USA First Team selection with Marshall, which went 24-6-6 overall in his two seasons. This past fall he was voted the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and to the United Soccer Coaches All Southeast Region First Team after his senior season.
