INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Friday the club had signed Norwegian midfielder Jonas Fjeldberg ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. Per club policy, terms of Fjeldberg’s contract that lands him in the Circle City will not be released, and the transaction is pending receipt of Fjeldberg’s P-1 visa and league and federation approval.

“I am very excited to be a part of Indy Eleven. I chose to come here because I want to be a part of a winning culture again,” said Fjeldberg. “I can’t wait to play in front of the fans and show them what we can do as a team this year.”

The 23-year-old Fjeldberg brings domestic and overseas experience to Indiana’s Team. Last season during his first professional season, Fjeldberg was loaned by Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati to Rio Grande Valley FC of the USL Championship. His three goals and two assists in eight appearances during a late-season loan stint helped the Toros reach the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs, and advance to the Western Conference Semifinals. FC Cincinnati had previously selected Fjeldberg 54th overall in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.

Fjeldberg’s career started from 2014-17 with Ullensaker/Kisa, a professional team based in his hometown of Jessheim, Norway. While in the club’s youth system, Fjeldberg registered three goals and two assists in league and cup competitions for their First Team. During that time, Fjeldberg also represented his home country of Norway in their youth national team set-up, earning 17 caps for his country at the U16 through U19 levels.

“Jonas is a top player in the USL Championship, and he proved it in a short time last season with the massive impact he had in a short time with Rio Grande Valley,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Mark Lowry. “He is an all-action attacking midfielder who is the perfect profile of player to fit into our system. I couldn’t be happier with the current squad and the quality we have in it.”

Prior to turning pro, Fjeldberg was a standout at the University of Dayton, where he played from 2017-21 and scored 22 goals in 61 matches. His many accolades with the Flyers included a pair of Atantic-10 (A-10) Offensive Conference Player of the Year honors and First Team All A-10 placements in 2019 and 2020 in addition to a 2020 United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Midwest Region selection. Between his junior and senior seasons, Fjeldberg also played for Dayton Dutch Lions of USL League Two in 2019, making seven appearances for the club.
