SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Friday the club had signed defender Fabien Garcia and midfielder Deshane Beckford ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. The signings are pending league and federation approval, and per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Garcia joins SAFC after spending the last three seasons with Austin Bold FC in the USL Championship. The 27-year-old made 48 appearances for Bold FC since 2019, including 26 this past campaign as he compiled 2,244 minutes played, four goals, 86 clearances and 58 interceptions. Defensively in 2021, Garcia led Austin in blocks (17) and interceptions while ranking second in clearances.

“Fabien has proven to be among the premier center-backs in the USL,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “Fabien is an ultra-competitor with high one versus one pressing execution, very good recovery speed, and the on-the-ball ability to vertically progress.”

Beckford joins SAFC after a strong season with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in 2021. While with the Switchbacks, the Jamaican appeared in 29 matches (24 starts) in all competitions, compiling 2,039 minutes played to go with five goals, seven assists, 29 key passes and 45 successful dribbles. Prior to his time in Colorado Springs, the 23-year-old spent the 2019 and 2020 USL Championship seasons with Rio Grande Valley FC, making 22 appearances for the Toros over the two years.

“[Deshane] is extremely quick and aggressive with the ball as he ranked among the league's best in one versus one duels last season,” said Marcina. “Deshane is a high performer with even higher potential and will contribute to the team identity.”
