MIAMI – The Miami FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed Jamaican forward Romeo Parkes ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to get Romeo signed and over the line,” said Miami FC Head Coach Anthony Pulis. “He is an experienced player with great technical ability and incredible pace. He will offer us something a little different to what we currently have in the squad and really increases the competition for places in the forward area.”

Parkes joins Miami after most recently competing for Sligo Rovers in the League of Ireland Premier League, bringing with him extensive prior experience in the USL Championship. The 31-year-old has recorded 15 goals and four assists in 72 appearances across the regular season and playoffs, most recently seeing action on loan with New Mexico United during the 2020 season.

A native of Port Maria, Jamaica, Parkes can play centrally as a striker or as a winger on either side. He recorded four goals and three assists for Sligo during the 2021 season, which helped Rovers to a third-place finish in the campaign. Additionally, he bagged two goals in the FAI Cup against Cork City, while also making a pair of appearances for the side in UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifying, ending his second stint at the club having notched 19 goals and eight assists in 63 appearances.

Prior to his move to Ireland in 2019, Parkes spent three seasons in the USL Championship with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, three seasons with El Salvador’s Isidro Metapan and five seasons playing in his home nation. Parkes has also competed for Jamaica internationally, making his senior team international debut for Jamaica in 2012 before going on to earn four appearances.

“We’ve wanted to build a squad where there is serious competition in all areas of the field, so the players are constantly pushing each other every day and in turn raising their performance levels,” said Pulis. “On top of all this, Romeo is a great guy who I know will fit into the locker room very well.”
