Detroit City FC Signs Defender Deklan Wynne

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Friday the club had signed New Zealand international Deklan Wynne as it continues to build toward its inaugural season in the USL Championship this spring. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Wynne joins DCFC having made 14 appearances in the Championship for OKC Energy FC while competing on loan from Phoenix Rising FC. The 26-year-old recorded four assists and 13 chances created for Energy FC while also making 21 clearances, 15 interceptions and posting a duel success rate of 54.8 percent during his time at the club.

A native of South Africa, Wynne’s family emigrated to New Zealand when he was a teenager. He represented New Zealand at the senior international level, making his debut in November, 2014 against China. Wynn has made 15 appearances overall for New Zealand, while also competing for the country at the U-20 and U-23 levels.

In 2015 he made the move to North America to join Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in the Championship. Wynne made 34 appearances for WFC2 across three seasons before being acquired by Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids ahead of the 2018 campaign. In Colorado, Wynne made 36 appearances across three seasons, logging almost 3,000 minutes of action in the top flight before joining Phoenix prior to the 2021 campaign.
