OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Wednesday the club had re-signed forward Jesus Enriquez, retaining one of the key figures in the club’s run to the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs for the new season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Better known to those around the Bay Area as “Chuy,” Enriquez scored in each of Roots SC’s final two regular season games to help the club earn its berth in the postseason in its first season in the Championship. Enriquez ended the campaign with four goals and four assists, good for second and first on the team respectively in those categories.

“Chuy’s creativity and ability to make plays on the ball, make him a very dangerous player in the attacking third,” said Roots SC Head Coach Juan Guerra. “But beyond his fantastic soccer qualities I knew I needed someone with his energy and positive spirit in our locker room. That type of spirit and energy is a must in a team and is not something that you can coach.”

A native of Santa Clara, Enriquez was raised in East Palo Alto before moving to Tijuana, Mexico to become part of Xolos de Tijuana’s youth academy. After signing professionally with the club in 2016, he subsequently made the move to Rio Grande Valley FC in the USL Championship two years later. The 24-year-old spent two seasons with the Toros before stints with San Antonio FC and Reno 1868 FC ahead of his arrival in Oakland.

Enriquez has made 92 appearances in the Championship’s regular season in his career so far, recording 14 goals, 12 assists and 109 chances created in that span.
