SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed defender Jack Gurr ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. Per club policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and the signing is pending league and federation approval.

“Jack is a talented defender who is capable of making an immediate impact on our backline,” said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. “His experiences in MLS, USL, and the Scottish Premier League will make him a valuable asset to our group.”

Gurr comes to the Indomitable City after spending the previous two seasons in the Atlanta United FC system. He made his professional debut in the USL Championship with Atlanta United 2 in 2020 and started all 16 matches during the pandemic-shortened season. He then signed for Atlanta United FC prior to the 2021 season and made one appearance in the top flight before making a move to Scottish Premier League club Aberdeen FC, where he was reunited with former Atlanta manager Stephen Glass.

The 26-year-old made 10 appearances for Aberdeen, including action in the Scottish Challenge Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying matches. A native of Newcastle, England, Gurr was previously an academy product of English club Gateshead FC. He moved to the United States in 2014, joining the soccer program at Georgia Gwinnett College. As a Grizzly, he tallied 14 goals and 22 assists in four seasons and twice earned First Team All-Independent Institutions recognition.
