TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship has announced its full 2022 schedule, with the 459-game season set to bring old rivalries and new matchups across a 34-game, eight-month campaign to determine which clubs advance to the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs.
Every match of the season will be available live on ESPN+ except for those that air on ESPN or ESPN2. The 2022 USL on ESPN broadcast schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2022 USL Championship season will feature 83 percent of its games on weekend dates (Friday-Sunday), with 72 of the league’s 78 midweek games to be held on Wednesday nights throughout the season.
The Championship regular season will span 32 weeks, starting with the previously announced season kick off on Saturday, March 12, and a full slate of 13 games in the opening weekend. The regular season will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 15 with another full slate of 13 games that will decide postseason places and seeding for the top seven teams in the Eastern and Western Conferences.
Featured on the final Saturday of games is a rematch of the 2021 Western Conference Final as Orange County SC visits San Antonio FC, while Birmingham Legion FC will be at home to Indy Eleven, New Mexico United plays host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Sacramento Republic FC welcomes California rival San Diego Loyal SC, and Miami FC will head to face Detroit City FC.
At the conclusion of the regular season on Oct. 15, the top seven teams in each conference will qualify for the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs. The first overall seed in each conference will receive a bye to the Conference Semifinals of the playoffs. The bracket will be reseeded following the Conference Quarterfinals to ensure the first overall seed in each conference plays against the lowest-seeded remaining opponent.
The USL Championship Playoffs will remain a single-elimination format, culminating in the 2022 USL Championship Final on a to-be-determined date between Nov. 10 and Nov. 14, 2022.
