United adds 22-year-old on loan from Accra Hearts of Oak for 2022 season with option to transfer

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Saturday it had acquired defender Raddy Ovouka on loan from Ghana Premier League club Accra Hearts of Oak, with an option to transfer the Congolese international at the conclusion of the 2022 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Ovouka made his debut for Hearts of Oak in 2018 and has since been a defensive stalwart at the back end and a force going forward. In the 2020/2021 season, the 22-year-old played in 29 matches, and scored Hearts of Oak’s eighth penalty in the shootout to lift the Ghanaian FA Cup, completing the domestic double on the year. During his domestic career, Ovuoka has also competed in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

“Raddy is a unique talent and has an incredibly high ceiling,” said New Mexico United Head Coach and Technical Director Zach Prince. “He has the ability to be a consistent threat in the attack from wide positions, and also controls individual defensive movements at a very high level. We are thrilled to add Raddy to our group.”

Ovuoka’s performances for the Phobians saw him earn his international debut last March for the Republic of the Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying contest against Senegal. He has since made four appearances for the country, including a pair of appearances in 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying in November.
