Vegas brings La Liga experience to club, which also adds forwards Conway, Moon

New San Diego Loyal SC goalkeeper Koke Vegas has joined the club, bringing experience from the top two flights of Spanish soccer.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC has added three new signings to its squad for the 2022 USL Championship season, with Spanish goalkeeper Koke Vegas being joined by forward Nick Moon and Evan Conway as the club prepares for its third campaign. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

Vegas joins SD Loyal having most recently been part of the squad at La Liga’s Levante UD. The 26-year-old has made five appearances in La Liga in his career, while last season spent time on loan at RCD Mallorca in the Segunda Division as the side earned promotion to the top flight after finishing second in the standings. Overall, Vegas has made 77 professional appearances since his debut in 2014 for RCD Espanyol B.

“Koke is a tremendously talented young goalkeeper with a lot of high-level games under his belt already,” said SD Loyal Head Coach Landon Donovan. “His experience playing in La Liga will help our club on and off the field and we are excited to add him to our team.”

Conway makes the move west after claiming the USL League One title last season with Union Omaha. The Wisconsin native recorded 13 goals across the regular season and playoffs, playing a key role in the club’s attack with a strike rate of a goal every 96.8 minutes in his 18 appearances. Conway was voted to the League One All-League Second Team in his second season at the club, having joined the professional ranks in Omaha after previously competing in USL League Two for the Ventura County Fusion and collegiately for the University of Milwaukee.

“Evan has been the best player in USL League One for two consecutive seasons and we are delighted to have him join San Diego Loyal,” said Donovan. “He is a dynamic player and will add a different dimension to our attack.”

Moon adds another attacking option for Donovan’s squad, with the 25-year-old having recorded five goals and six assists in 45 appearances for Indy Eleven over the past two seasons. A 2019 USL League One All-League selection when he scored six goals and four assists in 28 appearances for Lansing Ignite FC, Moon also competed at the University of Milwaukee alongside Conway, and played in USL League Two for the Fresno Fuego and Lane United FC.

“Nick is one of the most athletic players in our league and is versatile enough to play almost any position on the field,” Donovan said. “He creates a high volume of chances in the attack and is responsible defensively. We are thrilled to have him in Torrey Green.”
