MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Wednesday it had re-signed midfielder and club captain Leston Paul for the 2022 USL Championship Season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

“Leston is the only remaining player that has been with this Club since day one and is our Club’s fearless leader,” said 901 FC Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “He epitomizes what it means to ‘Defend Memphis,’ gives everything he has day in and day out and is a tremendous example to the rest of this team.”

Paul will return to 901 FC for a fourth season after joining the club from Central FC in his native Trinidad and Tobago in 2019. Since arriving in Memphis, Paul has been a consistent presence in the middle of the pitch, recording 61 appearances and 4,130 minutes of action while recording a pair of assists.

In the 2021 Championship season, Paul tied for second at the club with 33 interceptions, won 59 percent of duels and 71.7 percent of tackles while recording 139 recoveries defensively. He also ranked third on the team with 870 completed passes at an 82.9 percent accuracy rate as 901 FC reached the USL Championship Playoffs for the first time in its history.

The 31-year-old veteran has also made 25 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago at the international level, including competing at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup and in FIFA World Cup Qualifying.
