SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC announced on Monday it had re-signed forward Tumi Moshobane ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2023 season as the South African returns for his third campaign in San Diego. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Moshobane recorded a team-high 10 goals for SD Loyal in the 2021 regular season as he helped the side reach the USL Championship Playoffs for the first time in the club’s second season. The 27-year-old proved influential off the bench, with six of his 10 goals coming as a substitute, including a pair of two-goal performances against Las Vegas Lights FC in August and September this past campaign.

A native of Soweto, Moshobane joined the professional ranks in 2019 with USL League One side Lansing Ignite FC. There, he finished tied for third place in the league’s inaugural season with 10 goals and was named to the League One All-League First Team. The following offseason he joined SD Loyal for its inaugural season in the Championship and has gone on to record 11 goals and two assists in 44 regular season appearances for the club.

A product of historic South African club Kaizer Chiefs’ academy system, Moshobane moved to the United States in 2015 to compete collegiately and was twice named as an honorable mention ono the NAIA All-America Team while competing at Olivet Nazarene University. In addition, he competed in USL League Two for the Charlotte Eagles in 2018 prior to his senior campaign, where he recorded three goals in 10 appearances for the side.
