TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Tuesday it had exercised its contract option on Cuban international Jorge Corrales for the 2022 season, pending league and federation approval. The new campaign will be Corrales’ third season in Tulsa overall with the club having advanced to the USL Championship Playoffs in each of his previous two seasons (2017, 2021).

“Jorge Corrales was an important piece for us attacking and defending,” said FC Tulsa Head Coach Michael Nsien. “His experience will be valuable for us coming into the new season.”

Corrales was an integral piece in Tulsa’s back four in 2021 as he made 26 appearances in 33 matches across the regular season and playoffs. He led the team with 65 interceptions in the regular season and placed in the top five on the team in tackles won (22) and blocks (11). He finished the 2021 season with three assists from his left back position and currently ranks sixth in franchise history in total minutes played.

The 30-year-old’s assists in 2021 were particularly timely as each assist gave FC Tulsa the lead in a match it went on to win. In his professional career, Corrales has had a knack for chipping in on the offensive end, with a goal and eight assists.

“I’m really happy and looking forward to the 2022 season in Tulsa and continuing to play good soccer,” said Corrales. “We have a team of really good players and friends, all working towards one goal – to get to Finals and fight for a title. I appreciate the opportunity to stay in Tulsa and push this club to new heights.”

Corrales also featured prominently in the past year for the Cuba Men’s National Team for which he made four appearances in FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifying over the course of the year. In a 5-0 win over the British Virgin Islands, Corrales secured his first international assist. In his career, Corrales has made 38 appearances for Cuba.
