HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic announced on Monday it had re-signed midfielder Conor McGlynn for the 2022 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval, setting the New York native for his third season with the club.

“Re-signing with Hartford was an easy decision,” said McGlynn. “I am looking forward to working with Coach Watling again next season and playing in front of our outstanding fans. 2022 is going to be a special year and I can’t wait to get started.”

McGlynn recorded five goals in 29 appearances for the Athletic in the 2021 season, recording 1,864 minutes of action to rank seventh on the team. Playing predominantly in the center of midfield, the 23-year-old led Hartford with 39 tackles won while also making 28 interceptions and 119 recoveries.

McGlynn has also shown a knack for scoring highlight-reel goals, including scoring from his own half against the New York Red Bulls II this past season. Four of McGlynn’s five goals in the 2021 season came from outside the penalty area, tying him for second in the league in that category.

“Conor is what this club is about, finding local talent and developing it,” said Hartford Head Coach Harry Watling. “He gives you everything he has, puts the team above himself, and is a key presence in the locker room. I’m thrilled he’ll be back with us next season and can’t wait to see him score more incredible goals.”

McGlynn had previously played for Siena College, where he made 75 appearances and recorded nine goals and 16 assists and in his senior season was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Second Team.
