Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will see leaders Kenardo Forbes, Russell Cicerone and Alex Dixon return to the side among nine players who had contract options exercised for the 2022 season on Monday.

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Monday it had exercised the contract options on nine players for the 2022 USL Championship season, including 2021 All-League selection Kenardo Forbes and forwards Alex Dixon and Russell Cicerone in the club’s first roster moves of the offseason.

Forbes earned his fifth Championship All-League selection overall in 2021 as he was named to the All-League Second Team in November and is the team’s longest-tenured player as he returns for a fifth season in the Pittsburgh midfield. Cicerone, meanwhile, led the side with 16 goals and also notched eight assists in the 2021 season, while Dixon recorded nine goals and nine assists in standout first seasons at the club.

The center of the Hounds’ defense will remain stable with former Pitt defender Shane Weidt and Trinidad and Tobago internationals Mekeil Williams and Jelani Peters all set to return for a second year at the club. Midfield staple Todd Wharton and speedy wing back Ezra Armstrong also return for another year with the Hounds, while versatile and energetic defender/midfielder Dani Rovira will return for his fourth season with the club.

The Hounds and Head Coach Bob Lilley are negotiating with other players whose contracts with the Hounds ended in 2021, as the team seeks to keep building upon a group that went 17-8-7 this season and qualified for a club-record fourth consecutive berth in the USL Championship Playoffs.
