Rowdies look to close out best record in regular season in first clash with Lights FC

Las Vegas Lights FC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies will meet for the first time in their histories on Saturday night at Cashman Field as the Rowdies look to clinch the best record in the Championship.

LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Lights FC plays host to the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the first meeting between the clubs in their histories on Saturday night at Cashman Field as the visitors look for a positive result to clinch the best record in the Championship this season and homefield advantage throughout the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.

@LVLightsFC (6-22-3, 21pts) suffered a 2-1 defeat against Orange County SC in its most recent outing last Saturday night at Championship Soccer Stadium. The visitors grabbed a late equalizer through Danny Trejo but saw conceded in second-half stoppage time as OCSC took all three points. Las Vegas has now lost two games in a row but has been a more dangerous side on its home turf this season than away from home. The side has been led by forward Cal Jennings, who has notched a career-best 11 goals while on loan from Los Angeles FC, while goalkeeper Alex Rando has recorded 124 saves, which currently sits third-most in a single season in the Championship’s history. Rando would need to record seven saves on Saturday to surpass the single-season record held by former Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski in the 2015 campaign. The hosts will be without defender Dekel Keinan on Saturday, however, after he was sent off for two yellow cards against Orange County.

The @TampaBayRowdies (22-7-2, 68pts) are within one point of clinching the best record in the Championship this regular season after they took a 1-0 win against Loudoun United FC last Saturday night in their last outing. Steevan Dos Santos scored the only goal of the game late in the first half as Tampa Bay threatened to add to its lead in the second half but settled for the one-goal victory. The Rowdies have now recorded the third-most victories in a Championship regular season and would move into a tie for second on 23 wins alongside the 2018 FC Cincinnati side should it take victory on Saturday. Rowdies goalkeeper Evan Louro is also within reach of equaling a milestone after recording his 14th shutout of the season against Loudoun as with one more clean sheet he would equal Maxime Crepeau’s record of 15 shutouts in a regular season in 2018 for Ottawa Fury FC. The Rowdies have also seen an outstanding season from forward and captain Sebastian Guenzatti, who sits second in the Championship with 21 goals this season and trails former teammate Georgi Hristov by only three goals for the club’s all-time scoring record with 57 goals in Rowdies colors across all competitions.
