Pittsburgh sees out 1-0 win in resumption of contest to remain in with chance of second place finish

MIAMI – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC saw out a 1-0 victory against Miami FC on Wednesday evening at FIU Stadium to stay within a point of the Charlotte Independence in the Atlantic Division as the hosts pushed to find an equalizer in the 23 minutes of allotted game time remaining but were unable to find a breakthrough. Miami is now locked into the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Division.

Play resumed at the 67:00 mark with the Hounds ahead due to the own goal by Janos Loebe that was incorrectly disallowed due to a misapplication of the FIFA Laws of the Game. The hosts quickly got on the front foot to try and pull back level but the Hounds defense stood up to the challenge before almost adding a second on a counterattack with 10 minutes remaining that saw Russell Cicerone be brought down well outside his penalty area by Miami goalkeeper Connor Sparrow, who earned a yellow card with teammate Paco Craig covering back.

Craig made a key pair of blocks with a minute to go as well as he denied chances for both Cicerone and Alex Dixon on another counterattack. Miami was unable to find a telling chance in the final minutes, however, allowing the Hounds to return home with all three points and a chance to pass Charlotte on the final day of the season.
