Second meeting between clubs, first since 2014, sees Los Dos within range of postseason berth

The Charleston Battery's Jarad van Schaik is the lone player still with either club since it played the LA Galaxy II in 2014, and he could match up with Los Dos leading scorer Preston Judd on Wednesday night at Patriots Point.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery and the LA Galaxy II will meet for the first time since the 2014 season on Wednesday night at Patriots Point with Los Dos looking for victory that could send the side to its third consecutive postseason should results go its way elsewhere later in the night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The @Chas_Battery (9-12-7, 34pts) were eliminated from postseason contention on Saturday night as they fell to Southern Derby rivals the Charlotte Independence in a result that solidified the playoff berths in the Atlantic Division. The Battery scored late in the first half through Romario Piggott to pull within a goal but were unable to make further progress to fall short of the playoffs for the first time in the Championship’s history. Charleston took a 3-0 victory when the teams met the first time in the Galaxy II’s inaugural season as Colin Falvey, Dane Kelly and Heviel Cordoves scored for the hosts, and one player remains from that contest in the Battery lineup with Jarad van Schaik having made 13 appearances for the side this season. The Battery will have the three teams chasing Los Dos for the fourth and final playoff place in the Pacific Division.

The @LAGalaxyII (11-12-6, 39pts) took a big step forward in its playoff pursuit with a 5-0 win against El Paso Locomotive FC on Sunday evening at Dignity Health Sports Park. Preston Judd scored a pair of goals to move to 15 tallies for the season while both Jorge Hernandez and Cameron Dunbar recorded a goal and assist to lead Los Dos to a five-point advantage over fifth-placed Oakland Roots SC with three games to go in the season. The Galaxy II are one of only two teams to have two double-digit goalscorers in their ranks so far this season with Hernandez sitting on 12 goals to join Judd, and the side sits fifth in the league with 52 goals overall. Should Los Dos take victory, it would clinch a playoff place should Tacoma Defiance and Oakland Roots SC play to a draw later on Wednesday night, which would put the Galaxy II out of range of both and into the postseason for a sixth time in its eight seasons in the league.
