MATCH PREVIEW

OC IN THE BAY AREA

Orange County SC flies up to the Bay Area to take on Oakland Roots SC in an important match with playoff implications on Saturday, October 16 at 7pm at Laney College Stadium. OCSC leads the all-time series 3-0-0. This match begins a stretch of four games in 14 days to close the season.

IV. IN OAKLAND… ACTUALLY

This is the fourth and final regular season meeting between the two Pacific Division teams, but it will be the first time that they will play in Oakland proper. Due to poor field conditions at their Laney College Stadium home, Oakland Roots SC were forced to find temporary homes at Merritt Community College and Las Positas College.

HYPHY VIBES

The term ‘hyphy’ (HY-fee) is Bay Area slang for ‘hyperactive’ or sometimes a combination of ‘hype’ and ‘fly’ which is  a perfect representation of OCSC’s last meeting with Oakland. In the OCSC 2-1 comeback home win on September 25, midfielder Mikko Kuningas scored an electric winning goal in the 90+1’ and flew over the field boards to celebrate with the hyped up crowd in an orange smoke cloud.

THE PHOENIX FELL TO BEN MINES SZN

The fourth time was the charm for OCSC to get a deserved victory against league leaders and rivals Phoenix Rising FC. On Wednesday, October 13, midfielder Ben Mines scored his second goal in as many games to earn a 1-0 victory and three important points toward a playoff berth. Goalkeeper Patrick Rakovsky made six saves to keep Phoenix off the scoreboard and was named The Dog Pawrk Brewing Co. Man of the Match.

LOYAL AND LIGHTS

Just two home games at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine remain in the 2021 USL Championship regular season. On Wednesday, October 20, local rival San Diego Loyal SC will travel up the 5 North for the first time since June on the last Dollar Beers & Cheap Eats night of the season. The home schedule concludes with Las Vegas Lights FC coming to the county on Saturday, October 23 on Scotoberfest—OCSC’s Scottish Festival with food, beer, whisky and music before the game. Both games kickoff at 7pm.
