OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Tuesday it had signed Modesto, California-raised left back Travian Sousa as the club continues its pursuit of a place in the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs. The transaction was complete prior to the Championship’s official roster freeze last Friday. The 20-year-old arrives after most recently competing for fellow Championship side Sporting Kansas City II.
“We are excited to add such a young player with great potential to the team as we head down the stretch run of the season,” said Roots VP of Soccer Eric Yamamoto. “Travian has shown tremendous ability at the US Youth National Team levels over the past decade.”
Sousa has previously spent time in Germany with Hamburger SV. He signed a professional contract with the club, making 14 appearances with the team's U-19s. Sousa also made a pair of appearances for Hamburger SV II in the Regionalliga Nord during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He played 90 minutes with the Bundesliga.2 First Team in a friendly against Braunschweig in October 2019.
Sousa has represented the US Youth National Team at the U-14, U-19 and U-20 levels.
