CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence play host to Miami FC on Wednesday night at American Legion Memorial Stadium with the chance to move within two points of their third-placed visitor in the USL Championship’s Atlantic Division standings, but only if the hosts can bring to an end Miami’s current nine-game undefeated run. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The @Independence (11-8-4, 37pts) took their third consecutive victory on Saturday night with a 1-0 win against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC as Irvin Parra scored his 10th goal of the season late on to secure a third win out of four meetings with the Hounds this season. That result, combined with Miami’s 1-1 draw against the Charleston Battery on Saturday, moved the Independence both seven points ahead of Charleston in fourth place in the Atlantic Division but also within five points of Miami for third with a game in hand as the regular season enters its final quarter. The Independence have recorded shutouts in each of their past three outings, with the last time the side conceded coming against Miami in a 2-2 draw on September 4 at Memorial Stadium when the visitors rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a point after Christiano Francois’ late equalizer. Charlotte will be hoping to avoid a similar performance on Wednesday as it looks to close in on the top three in the Atlantic standings.

That comeback by @TheMiamiFC (12-6-6, 42pts) was part of a current nine-game undefeated run that has set the club firmly on course for its first postseason berth in its second season in the Championship. A second-half equalizer by Jamaican international Lamar Walker continued that run in Miami’s draw with the Battery on Saturday, where the hosts were unfortunate not to claim all three points as both Speedy Williams and Ariel Martinez also hit the woodwork in a strong second-half display. Miami is now five points back of Pittsburgh for second place in the Atlantic Division with two games in hand, and would boost its chances of hosting a postseason contest with a victory on the road in Charlotte as it tries to continue an undefeated run that now almost spans two months since its last defeat on July 24 to Hartford Athletic.
