Winger notches goal, assist in hard-fought 2-0 win for visitors at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

INDIANAPOLIS – Antoine Hoppenot had a goal and assist as Louisville City FC took a 2-1 victory against Indy Eleven on Saturday night at Michael A. Carroll Stadium to even the season series in the Louisville Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest and continue its drive toward a seventh consecutive postseason berth.

The rivals opened tightly and it wasn’t until the 13th minute that either side got a clean look on goal as Indy’s Manuel Arteaga played a good reverse pass into the left channel for Gordon Wild that the German forward fired first time to the near post where LouCity’s Chris Hubbard parried away. Chances continued to be limited as the half went on, but four minutes before the break Louisville broke through as a counterattack led by Jorge Gonzalez, who threaded a pass between defenders for Hoppenot to control under pressure from a sliding challenge and poked his finish home past the advancing goalkeeper.

The hosts almost hit back five minutes into the second half as Gerhon Koffie found space to shoot from the top of the penalty area toward the left corner of the net and had his shot parried wide of the post by Hubbard. LouCity doubled its lead with 21 minutes to go, however, as Hoppenot added an assist to his earlier goal with a precisely played cross from the left side that found Cameron Lancaster for a flicked header that looped over Indy goalkeeper Jordan Farr and into the right corner of the net.

Louisville twice late on had chances to add to its as in the 82nd minute Brian Ownby held onto possession after a defensive challenge and fired a shot just over the crossbar from 25 yards, while in the final minute Gonzalez got past a pair of defenders and into the left side of the penalty area but only found the side-netting with his finish. It proved academic, however, as Louisville closed out the game to take another step toward the postseason while leaving Indy still battling for its playoff life.
