Red Bulls II, 901 FC both look to rebound as Memphis tries to keep playoff bid on course in Sunday matinee

The New York Red Bulls II's Jeremy Rafanello and Memphis 901 FC's Dominic Oduro could both feature as the sides meet for the first time since 2019 at MSU Soccer Park on Sunday afternoon.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls II will square off with Memphis 901 FC in a Sunday matinee at MSU Soccer Park that sees both teams looking to rebound from defeat last time out and 901 FC looking to boost its playoff chances in a close race in the USL Championship’s Central Division. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.

@NYRBII (4-15-4, 16pts) suffered a second consecutive victory on Wednesday night as it fell 2-1 to San Antonio FC at MSU Soccer Park. Kyle Zajec found the net for the first time this season for New York, but the hosts were unable to take further advantage of a 10-man San Antonio lineup in the final half-hour of the game as it outshot the visitors 8-2 over the final half-hour of the contest but was only able to muster one shot inside the penalty area out of those eight. The Red Bulls II have been aggressive in attack most of the season and sit tied for eighth in the Championship with 300 shots overall, but the club’s conversion rate of 11.9 percent ranks 27th in the league with the side recording only 105 shots on target.

@Memphis901FC (6-8-7, 25pts) is also looking to rebound after a 2-0 defeat to Miami FC last Saturday night that saw the hosts left frustrated by a standout performance by Miami goalkeeper Connor Sparrow, who recorded a nine-save shutout to keep the hosts off the scoreboard at AutoZone Park. Memphis is currently in seventh place in the Central Division but has at least two games in hand on all three of the teams it is chasing for a place in the postseason with a five-point gap to make up on OKC Energy FC in fourth place as the weekend begins. 901 FC’s attack has been creative in its last three games, too, but has run into a pair of standout goalkeeper displays to deny them valuable points, with Energy FC’s CJ Cochran having put up a seven-save shutout against the side on September 1. 901 FC’s cumulative Expected Goals mark sits at 7.62xG with the side having notched three goals, so a little better fortune could be hoped for as leading scorer Kyle Murphy leads the side into MSU Soccer Park for the second time in club history.
