EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC will square off for a second consecutive weekend with the scene switching to the Toros’ H-E-B Park on Saturday night as the hosts look to break out of the winless slide against a Switchbacks side coming off a midweek draw. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

@RGVFC (8-6-7, 31pts) earned a 1-1 draw against the Switchbacks last Saturday night at Weidner Field but let a much-needed victory slip through their fingers as the 10-man hosts scored through Matt Mahoney in second-half stoppage time to level. The Toros’ recent moves to strengthen their squad quickly paid off, however, with Frank Lopez scoring his first goal since arriving on loan from OKC Energy FC to put the side ahead before the late equalizer. RGVFC will be without defender Erik Pimentel on Saturday after he was suspended a game following his eighth yellow card of the season, and the side is now winless in its past seven games, a run of form that has seen it slip out of the top four in the Mountain Division behind Austin Bold FC and one that the side will be eager to put an end to as it looks to claim a first postseason berth since the club’s inaugural season in 2016. With only eight goals in those past seven outings, however, the Toros will need to be sharper creatively in front of net to find a way back into the win column.

@SwitchbacksFC (10-7-7, 37pts) continued to solidify its bid for a postseason berth on Wednesday night as it played to a 0-0 draw with Mountain Division leader El Paso Locomotive FC at Weidner Field. Both teams had chances in the contest, with arguably the biggest falling to Colorado Springs’ Thomas Amang in the second half as he saw a close-range header saved by El Paso’s Logan Ketterer. The Switchbacks are undefeated in their last three games overall and hold a six-point lead over the Toros, who sit in fifth place in the standings. A victory in the same vein as the 5-2 result the last time the Switchbacks visited H-E-B Park would strongly improve Colorado Springs’ chances of a trip to the playoffs as Hadji Barry also continues his pursuit of the league’s single-season scoring record, needing five goals in the final eight games to pass Cameron Lancaster’s record mark from 2018.
