New Sacramento Republic FC arrival Patrick Weah has made two appearances in Major League Soccer for Minnesota United FC as he arrives on loan for the remainder of the 2021 USL Championship season.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC announced on Friday the club had acquired 17-year-old forward Patrick Weah for the remainder of the 2021 season on loan from Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United FC, pending federation and league approval.

“Patrick is an exciting young talent that adds a different element to our attack,” said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. “We look forward to welcoming him to the squad as we head down the final stretch of the season.”

Weah, a Minneapolis native, became the second MLS Homegrown signing for Minnesota United FC when he signed his first pro contract last March. Weah has since appeared in two league contests, while this past July he joined Real Betis of Spain’s La Liga for a First Team training stint.

Before joining MNUFC, Weah was a standout in the Loons academy and competed briefly for Saint Louis University, where he appeared in three matches, starting two and scoring in his debut for the Billikens.  In his freshman and sophomore years in high school, he led his team in goals and assists en route to back-to-back state championship appearances, claiming the trophy in 2017. Before joining the academy, Weah was named 2017-18 Minnesota State Player of the Year, 2016 All-State and All-State Tournament Team, and 2016 All-Conference.
