San Antonio looks to build on victory last time out as it heads East to face Red Bulls II for first time

New York Red Bulls II midfielder Kyle Zajec could square off with former teammate Chris Lema, now with San Antonio FC, when the sides meet for the first time on Wednesday night.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls II and San Antonio FC will meet for the first time in their histories on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park with the visitors looking to build on a weekend victory that solidified its place in the USL Championship’s Mountain Division. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

@NYRBII (4-14-4, 16pts) fell heavily against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in its last outing as it suffered a 6-0 defeat at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night. The result was the second time this season the Red Bulls II have conceded at least six goals in a game and moved the side to 51 goals conceded this season, second-most in the league to Las Vegas Lights FC. New York was absent a pair of key figures against the Rowdies with goalkeeper AJ Marcucci and forward Omar Sowe both having last week signed MLS deals with the Red Bulls. Sowe – who leads the side with six goals this season and has also notched two assists and 23 key passes – also made his debut against D.C. United, becoming the latest player to move up to the top flight through the Red Bulls organization.

@SanAntonioFC (9-6-7, 34pts) heads to the northeast after taking a 1-0 victory against Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday night that saw Marcus Epps score the only goal of the game at Zions Bank Stadium. Wednesday’s game is the third in a run of four consecutive road games for San Antonio that is set to conclude on Saturday night against Sacramento Republic FC. San Antonio has in its ranks a notable former Red Bulls II standout, with Chris Lema having played in 71 regular season games for the side while recording six goals and 13 assists and 163 key passes over three seasons before making the move to San Antonio last offseason. Sitting two points behind second-placed Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the Mountain Division standings, San Antonio will be hoping to take all three points and potentially land in a top-two spot by the end of the night as Colorado Springs hosts division leader El Paso Locomotive FC later on Wednesday night.
