Championship Player of the Month Nominees – August

Five players shone in the league’s action over the past month, which gets your vote?

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Championship Player of the Month award for August, with top performers throughout the past month as the 2021 regular season moved into its second half selected for the ballot.

Voting in the Championship Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLChampionship.com will comprise 51 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, September 6 at 12 p.m. ET.
  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 25 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 24 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, September 9.

Please note: The USL Championship Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL Championship Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.

USL Championship Player of the Month – August 2021

Russell Cicerone, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC – Russell Cicerone scored six goals in six games while also notching one assist and five key passes to move into second place in the race for the Championship’s Golden Boot while keeping the Hounds in contention for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Hadji Barry, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC – The Guinean forward continued his record-setting pace in the 2021 Championship regular season with six goals in six games to move to 20 for the campaign. Barry also recorded one assist and seven key passes and won the majority of his duels (24 of 43).

Junior Flemmings, Birmingham Legion FC – The Jamaican international came to the fore for Legion FC after his return from the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup with four goals and two assists in six appearances. He also had five key passes and two big chances created to record a league-high 2.64 G+ rating for the month of August.

Evan Louro, Tampa Bay Rowdies – Evan Louro recorded four shutouts in five games with nine saves and an 88.9 save percentage, including one penalty kick save and a G+ rating of +1.63, a team-high over an undefeated month for the Rowdies.

Alex Dixon, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC – Alex Dixon recorded three goals and three assists in six appearances for the Hounds while also recording eight key passes and three big chances created to rank fourth in the Championship in G+ at +2.21 over the month.
