Atlanta looks to build on three-game undefeated streak as they visit Hounds at Highmark Stadium


Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and Atlanta United 2 meet for the first time since 2019 on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium with the Hounds undefeated in four prior contests between the clubs.

KENNESAW, Ga. – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC plays host to Atlanta United 2 on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium with hosts looking to break a three-game winless streak and the visitors hoping to build on a three-game undefeated streak that has moved the side into third place in the USL Championship’s Central Division. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

@RiverhoundsSC (10-6-4, 34pts) returns to Atlanta for the first time since the 2019 season after playing to a 0-0 draw against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday night at Highmark Stadium, keeping the teams equal on points at the top of the Atlantic Division. The Hounds are looking to snap a three-game winless streak overall, however, having fallen to Miami FC and the Charlotte Independence in its prior two outings. Pittsburgh is undefeated overall in four prior meetings with Atlanta, having gone 2-0-2 in their all-time series. The last meeting between the teams at Highmark Stadium saw October 5, 2019 saw the sides end in a 1-1 draw as Wesly Decas scored a late equalizer for the visitors. Having played two games more than the Rowdies, picking up victory would be an important boost to Pittsburgh’s chances of finishing on top of the Atlantic at the end of the season.

@atlutd2 (6-7-7, 25pts) picked up a second high-scoring victory in its last three games with a 4-1 win against Sporting Kansas II last Saturday night at Children’s Mercy Park as Phillip Goodrum recorded two goals and one assist after coming on as a halftime substitute to power the visitors to victory. Goodrum was one of three Atlanta players named to the Championship’s Team of the Week on Tuesday, with Caleb Wiley and Robbie Mertz also earning recognition. Former Riverhounds SC midfielder Mertz in particular has come into his own in recent weeks for Atlanta after struggling with injuries early in the season, and now has a team-high four assists this season after notching a pair across two games in Week 17. Atlanta continues a four-game road trip on Sunday night that will also see the side visit FC Tulsa and Indy Eleven and will be hoping to build on its first road win of the season with another positive result to continues its recent positive momentum.
