EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC can clinch the season series in the South Texas Derby as it plays host to San Antonio FC on Sunday night at H-E-B Park as the rivals square off for the fourth and final time this season with the Toros having yet to suffer defeat. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

@RGVFC (8-4-4, 28pts) solidified its position in second place in the Mountain Division standings on Wednesday night as it pulled away for a 3-0 victory against Real Monarchs SLC at Zions Bank Stadium. Edvin Quero scored an outstanding goal in the first half to break the deadlock before second-half goals by John Henry Sanchez and Christian Sorto allowed the side to rebound from a defeat to Phoenix Rising FC in the opening game of its trip west. Sorto’s goal was his third of the season, with the other two having come in prior meetings with San Antonio this season. The young forward recorded what proved to be the winner when the sides met on May 16 and then notched the equalizer in the most recent meeting between the teams on June 19 as the Toros earned a 1-1 draw at Toyota Field. A pair of draws on the road have left RGVFC poised to claim the rivalry series for the third time, having previously done so in 2016 and 2019, but the side will be hoping to claim victory on home turf where it has gone 5-2-1 so far this season.

@SanAntonioFC (5-5-6, 21pts) will head to the Rio Grande Valley looking to rebound from a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday night against Mountain Division leader El Paso Locomotive FC at Southwest University Park that saw the visitors find difficulty in creating clear chances. SAFC recorded only two shots on goal out of eight shots overall, the second of which came late on after Locomotive FC had been reduced to 10 men. San Antonio has alternated wins and losses over its past four games but remains in the middle of a battle for the playoff places in the division that sees the four teams between third and sixth place separated by only two points going into the weekend’s action. San Antonio has won three times in nine prior visits to H-E-B Park and would need to take victory to even the season series after falling 2-1 in their first trip this campaign.
