Austin looks to rebound as Switchbacks visit after solid road win last time out to move back into playoff positions

AUSTIN, Texas – Austin Bold FC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC will meet for the second time this season at Bold Stadium on Wednesday night with the hosts looking to rebound from their heaviest loss of the season so far and the Switchbacks looking to build on a positive road victory last time out. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.

@AustinBoldFC (5-4-5, 20pts) suffered a frustrating 3-0 defeat to San Antonio FC on Saturday night in which the side created chances and outshot its visitors 18-13 but was unable to find a way past SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone, who had a six-save shutout. The defeat dropped Austin to sixth place in a hotly-contested playoff race that’s developing in the Mountain Division, but the side could end the night as high as third with a victory given the congested nature of the standings. Bold FC will have to earn that win without forward Jason Johnson, who on Monday was transferred to FC Tulsa for an undisclosed fee, but the side has yet to suffer consecutive defeats this season and prior to Saturday’s loss was on a five-game undefeated streak. The key for Bold FC, however, could be in finding a more consistent attacking spark overall, with the side having only scored multiple goals in three of its 14 games so far this season.

Scoring hasn’t been much of a problem for @SwitchbacksFC (6-5-3, 21pts) this campaign with the side sitting third in the Championship with 27 goals after a 3-1 victory against Loudoun United FC on Saturday night at Segra Field that saw Hadji Barry record his 14th goal of the campaign late on after Michael Edwards and Yaya Toure had scored a pair of goals in quick succession around the hour-mark to put the visitors on top. Colorado Springs sits in fourth place going into this week’s action, which also sees it host Hartford Athletic on Saturday night at Weidner Field to reach the midway point of its campaign, and the side would also move into third place if it can replicate its 3-2 victory when it visited Bold Stadium earlier this season. On that occasion Colorado Springs was forced to play a man down for the final hour after Lamar Batista was sent off for denial of a goalscoring opportunity, but two goals by Hadji Barry and a late winner by Toure lifted the side to a notable victory.
