BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC and Atlanta United 2 will meet for the second time in five days at BBVA Field with Wednesday night’s contest having been previously rescheduled from June 30 when the game was postponed at halftime due to heavy rain and lightning at the venue. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

@BHMLegion (8-4-2, 26pts) will be hoping to shake off conceding a late equalizer to Atlanta on Saturday night as the sides played to a 2-2 draw at the same venue, with Darwin Matheus’ goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time earning a point for the visitors after Birmingham had swung the game in its favor through goals by Neco Brett and Junior Flemmings midway through the second half. Brett’s goal was his ninth of the season, moving him into a tie for second in the league, while Flemmings’ goal marked his return to the squad after competing at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup for Jamaica. Legion FC now sits seven points behind Louisville City FC for first place in the Central Division with two games in hand, making Wednesday’s contest an important one to try and close the gap and remain in contention.

@atlutd2 (4-6-6, 18pts) picked up its fourth point in the past two games thanks to Matheus’ late equalizer having earned victory against FC Tulsa in midweek to reach the midway point of its regular season in fifth place in the Central Division standings. The side had seen Aiden McFadden score his sixth goal of the season late in the first half to open the scoring, while the weekend’s results left Atlanta one point out of the playoff positions in a congested middle of the pack in the Central. Atlanta has taken only one win away from home in eight tries this season, but should it do so on Wednesday night it would move the side back into the top three in the division ahead of another pair of key games at home to Indy Eleven (Aug. 8) and OKC Energy FC (Aug. 11) in the race for the postseason.
