McIntosh records second consecutive shutout for SKC II as hosts left to settle for a point

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sporting Kansas City II’s Kendall McIntosh recorded a four-save shutout as the visitors earned a 0-0 draw with OKC Energy FC on Saturday night at Taft Stadium.

Neither side was able to get much going in the attacking third early, and it took until midway through the first half before the first real chance arrived as Sporting earned a corner on the right. Jamil Roberts’ delivery to the back post was flicked back centrally by Petar Cuic for a volley by Danny Barbir that was parried away by OKC goalkeeper CJ Cochran before his defense cleared.

Energy FC’s first opportunity, meanwhile, fell to Jaime Chavez in the 28th minute as he ran onto a ball over the top by Sam Rogers and moved into the right side of the penalty area, only for SKC II goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh to come off his line and thwart his shot. Roberts then had a chance for the visitors 10 minutes before halftime as he chested down an angled pass into the left side of the penalty area by Matt Constant before firing a quick shot to the right corner that Cochran got down well to save before OKC defender Conor Donovan headed the rebound behind for a corner.

The hosts forced another good save from McIntosh in the minute before halftime as Villyan Bijev’s attempt to find Chavez inside the penalty area was cut out at the top of the penalty area but came straight to Aidan Daniels, who unleased a first-time strike toward the right corner that the goalkeeper got across well to parry.

Daniels went back to the well again six minutes into the second half with a shot from 20 yards that McIntosh punched away, while a few minutes later an errant pass by the hosts set up a chance for Sporting’s Enoch Mushagalusa as he broke into the right side of the penalty area but was denied at the near post by Cochran. Mushagalusa threatened again midway through the second half as well but found the outside of the side-netting with a shot from the right side of the box.

Chavez had a pair of chances to put OKC ahead as the game ticked into the final 20 minutes, the first coming on a header off a looping cross from the left by Deklan Wynne – making his debut on loan from Phoenix Rising FC – that the forward sent wide of the right post. Two minutes later Chavez claimed possession 30 yards from goal and quickly fired on target but McIntosh was there to save once again.

Despite the best efforts from both sides, including a late shot from Bijev for Energy FC from the top-right edge of the penalty area that was saved by McIntosh at the near post, the game ended scoreless as Energy FC continued its positive run in the Central Division.
