Lights FC looks to build momentum as it heads to face an offensively struggling Roots SC

Oakland Roots SC's Emrah Klimenta and Orange County SC's Daniel Crisostomo are set to lead their sides into action in the first meeting between Oakland and Las Vegas in the Championship.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC will try to find a solution to its recent attacking struggles as it plays host to a Las Vegas Lights FC side at Las Positas College that enters having taken victory in its most recent outing. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.

@OaklandRootsSC (1-3-3, 6pts) played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night against Sacramento Republic FC at Heart Health Park, but the club’s attacking struggles continued as it failed to find the net for a fourth consecutive game. Oakland’s Expected Goals mark against Sacramento was the lowest in a single game in the USL Championship this season at 0.07xG, with the lack of chances giving the side few clear opportunities to strike against a well-organized Sacramento defense. Oakland still holds at least three games in hand on every other team in its division, but with Saturday’s game opening a stretch of three home games in eight days – with contests against Phoenix Rising FC (July 14) and Tacoma Defiance (July 17) to follow – the side is going to need to start getting in gear to make up the current six-point gap to the playoff positions.

@LVLightsFC (3-6-1, 10pts) could move into the top four in the Pacific Division on Saturday night, however, with its 1-0 victory against Tacoma Defiance last Saturday night pulling the side within two points of both the Defiance and LA Galaxy II going into this weekend. Danny Musovski scored early against Tacoma to give the side a 1-0 victory as Alex Rando recorded the side’s second shutout of the season and the first of his pro career. The side will be hoping for another win as it faces Oakland for the first time, but Lights FC has also faced attacking problems at times this season as the side sits tied for second in the Championship with 19 Big Chances Created according to Opta while only sitting with 13 goals on the season.
