EL PASO, Texas – The rivalry between El Paso Locomotive FC and New Mexico United will resume on Saturday night before a sold-out Southwest University Park as the sides both look to rebound from midweek defeats in their second meeting of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.

@EPLocomotiveFC (4-1-3, 15pts) suffered its first regular-season loss in almost a year on Wednesday night as it fell 3-2 to Rio Grande Valley FC at H-E-B Park, missing out on a chance to move top of the Mountain Division standings. Locomotive FC’s 18-game regular-season undefeated streak tied for the sixth-longest in the league’s history alongside Orlando City SC in 2014. El Paso is still undefeated at home this season, however, with a current 11-game streak that included a 1-1 draw with New Mexico in its home opener on May 8 that saw Leandro Carrijo score deep in stoppage time to salvage a point for the hosts. Since then the side has gone 3-0-1 at home this season, and Saturday could see the return to the lineup of forward Sebastian Velasquez, who was signed earlier this week but not included in the gameday squad to face the Toros.

@NewMexicoUTD (4-4-2, 14pts) is also looking to rebound after defeat on Wednesday night as it wraps up a three-game road trip in El Paso. New Mexico fell 3-2 to Real Monarchs SLC in its last outing despite taking a two-goal lead thanks to Daniel Bruce and Andrew Tinari inside the opening 25 minutes of the game. The Monarchs rallied to victory, however, as United conceded three goals for a second consecutive game. New Mexico was the last side to defeat El Paso on its home turf, taking a 2-1 victory on July 24, 2020 as Chris Wehan and Devon Sandoval found the net. The side is set to be without forward Amando Moreno on Saturday night, however, after his selection to the El Salvador squad that will compete at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup starting next weekend.
