Berry scores winner in second half as visitors earn 2-1 win at Cashman Field

LAS VEGAS – San Diego Loyal earned its third consecutive victory and ran its undefeated streak to six games as it took a 2-1 win against Las Vegas Lights FC on Friday night at Cashman Field as Miguel Berry recorded the winner after the hosts had leveled the game in the second half.

Looking to add to a five-game undefeated streak, SD Loyal opened on the front foot and got its first real look at goal in the fifth minute as Miguel Berry fired a turning shot that was saved by Las Vegas’ Alex Rando. The visitors proceeded to take the lead two minutes later as a misplaced pass in Lights FC’s half was seized on by Alejandro Guido, who drove forward and put home a low finish to the right corner from the edge of the penalty area for his third goal of the season.

Guido had another effort for the visitors in the 14th minute that went just wide of the right post, but from there the chances slowed for both sides as a shot by San Diego’s Collin Martin that was saved by Rando a couple of minutes before halftime served as the only notable moment before the break arrived. The visitors almost grabbed a second six minutes into the second half as Jack Blake had a shot from a narrow angle in the right side of the penalty area saved before Josh Yaro also forced a good save on the hour-mark after the delivery from a short-corner routine on the right fell to him for a shot from the right side of the penalty area.

Las Vegas forced a first save of the night from SD Loyal goalkeeper in the 62nd minute as a cross from the left by Julian Vazquez found Roberto Molina near the right post for a headed finish that Muse tipped over the crossbar. The hosts found an equalizer off the ensuing corner, however, as a curling delivery off a short corner was sent to the back post for a header across goal by Tony Leone, and Marvin Gamez was on hand to knock home from close range.

But San Diego regained the lead with 16 minutes to go as Corey Hertzog stole possession in the Las Vegas half, moved forward and fired on goal. Rando was able to parry the shot to the right side of the net, but the rebound fell to Berry, who calmly finished off the rebound. Berry almost added his second of the night five minutes later but was denied well by Rando as he narrowed the angle on the Spanish forward coming off his line to save, but the visitors saw out the remaining minutes to secure a second victory against Las Vegas this season.
