Memphis looks to build off dramatic home opener victory as it hosts Energy FC for first time

Memphis 901 FC's Mark Segbers will be hoping to maintain his conventional role on the back line on Saturday night as 901 FC faces OKC Energy FC and Robert Coronado for the first time in club history.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC will look to build on its first home opener victory in the club’s short history when it hosts OKC Energy FC for the first time at AutoZone Park on Saturday night with the visitors looking to pick up their first win of the season after the sides played to a scoreless draw in their first encounter this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

@Memphis901FC (2-2-2, 8pts) earned a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night against Atlanta United 2 in remarkable circumstances after Skylar Thomas had put the side ahead with 15 minutes to go. 901 FC was forced to call on defender Mark Segbers to deputize in goal after John Berner suffered an injury in the 90th minute with the hosts having used all three substitution slots previously, and Segbers came up big to make a victory-sealing save in the seventh minute of stoppage time to preserve all three points. Berner will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering an Achilles injury, announced by the team on Thursday night, which will likely mean a first start for Brady Scott in goal on Saturday with the 21-year-old Nashville SC loanee bringing experience from the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team with him to the Bluff City.

@EnergyFC (0-4-4, 4pts) is looking to get out of the downward spiral the season has taken so far as it heads to Memphis. Energy FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham Legion FC last Saturday night as it conceded a late finish after rallying well to equalize through Villyan Bijev’s penalty kick from an early deficit against its visitors at Taft Stadium. The contest marked the first at the helm for interim Head Coach Leigh Veidman and saw the side record both a sizable advantage in possession and in shots (14-6), but OKC only recorded two shots on target, a number that must improve if the side is to move out of last place in the Central Division soon.
