Charleston returns to action to play host to Miami for first meeting of 2021 between clubs

The Charleston Battery's Leland Archer could square off with Miami FC playmaker Ariel Martinez on Friday night as the sides meet for the first time in the 2021 season.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery will be hoping the weather cooperates on Friday night as the club plays host to Miami FC at Patriots Point in the first meeting between the sides this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The @Chas_Battery (1-1-2, 5pts) have seen their past two home contests against the LA Galaxy II (June 4) and New York Red Bulls II (June 12) washed out by heavy rain and lightning. Thankfully, the forecast appears to be set fair for its next contest, which will see the side look for its first home win of the season. Charleston’s last outing came on June 8 as it took its first win of the campaign overall after a 1-0 result against Loudoun United FC that saw goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky record his 25th regular-season shutout and Burke Fahling score his first professional goal. The Battery should have defender AJ Paterson available for selection after his international duty with Grenada and will be hoping to pick up where they left off last season against Miami after winning both home contests against its visitors in 2020.

@TheMiamiFC (3-3-1, 10pts) slipped out of the playoff positions in the Atlantic Division last weekend after playing to a 1-1 draw on the road against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Christiano Francois scored late in the first half against his former club to level the game for Miami, which then held firm defensively after the break in its first draw of the campaign. The visitors should be reinforced in midfield on Friday night with Speedy Williams set to return after competing for Jamaica in the past two weeks and Bolu Akinyode available after suspension. Francois became the seventh different player to score this season for Miami in Pittsburgh, but no player has yet recorded more than one goal with the search for a consistent attacking centerpiece an ongoing process in South Florida.
