Toros look to add to lead in Mountain Division as stingy Bold FC defense visits H-E-B Park

Rio Grande Valley FC's Wan Kuzain scored the winner for the Toros in their last outing as they welcome Austin Bold FC and Omar Gordon to H-E-B Park on Wednesday night.

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley will look to continue its winning streak at H-E-B Park to begin the 2021 USL Championship season on Wednesday night as it plays host to Austin Bold FC, which has recorded back-to-back shutouts as it arrives in South Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

@RGVFC (5-1-1, 16pts) earned its fourth consecutive home victory this past Saturday night as it edged past Real Monarchs SLC 1-0 on a goal by Wan Kuzain. The win moved the Toros four points clear at the top of the Mountain Division as the rest of its rivals drew over the weekend and served as the second consecutive win for the side overall after it completed a three-game road trip with victory against Miami FC the prior weekend. Kuzain sits second on the club with two goals this season after his tally against the Monarchs and is also tied for the team-lead with 10 shots alongside Elvis Amoh and Christian Sorto. The Toros have also been solid defensively, with goalkeeper Tyler Deric having recorded three shutouts in seven games while posting a 0.71 goals-against average and 79.2 save percentage this season.

@AustinBoldFC (2-2-2, 8pts) has also tightened up defensively in recent weeks with the side posting consecutive shutouts against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and New Mexico United on the road in its last two outings. Austin has accomplished this through a compact defensive strategy that has seen the side look to counterattack after putting players behind the ball. Bold FC has recorded less than 27 percent of possession in its last two games, which could make for an intriguing clash of styles with a Toros side that has averaged 51.8 percent possession per game this season while completing 79.3 percent of its passes, good for 10th in the Championship.
