Independence look to build on back-to-back wins as they head to face Red Bulls II

The New York Red Bulls II defense and Joseph Zalinsky could have to try to contain the Charlotte Independence's Dane Kelly on Wednesday night after the Jamaican bagged his first goal of the season this past Sunday.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Charlotte Independence will try to solidify their second-place position in the Atlantic Division as they visit the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park with the hosts looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

@NYRBII (1-5-2, 5pts) returns home after seeing its most recent contest last Friday night against the Charleston Battery postponed due to lightning and heavy rain in the Charleston area. The side has yet to win at MSU Soccer Park this season, with its lone victory coming on the road against Loudoun United FC, with defensive struggles now seeing the Red Bulls II sit with a -12 goal differential after a 7-0 defeat to Hartford Athletic the last time its took the field on June 5. The Red Bulls II attack has been dangerous this year, though, ranking seventh in the Championship in Expected Goals at 10.73xG according to American Soccer Analysis, and it holds a narrow edge in the all-time series with the Independence having claimed four wins to Charlotte’s three in 10 prior meetings between the sides in the regular season.

The @Independence (4-2-0, 12pts) arrive in positive form, however, having rallied to take a 3-2 victory against Hartford Athletic on Sunday night for its second consecutive victory. Dane Kelly and Valentin Sabella scored second-half goals for the side as it handed Hartford its first loss of the season for their first goals of the season respectively. Charlotte has lost only once in its last five games and has conceded four goals in that span as goalkeeper Brandon Miller sits tied for the league-lead with three shutouts this campaign. Irvin Parra currently leads the side with three goals but has had penalty kicks saved in each of the past two outings.
