Locomotive FC looks to build on four-game shutout streak as Switchbacks visit Southwest University Park

El Paso Locomotive FC's Diego Luna and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC's Zach Zandi will look to lead their sides as they meet for the first time this season on Saturday night at Southwest University Park.

EL PASO, Texas – The lone remaining undefeated side in the USL Championship’s Western Conference, El Paso Locomotive FC, will look to continue its push up the Mountain Division standings as it plays host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday night at Southwest University Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.

@EPLocomotiveFC (3-0-2, 11pts) moved into second place in the Mountain Division standings on Wednesday night as it took a 2-0 victory against Indy Eleven on home turf as Nick Ross and Diego Luna each scored early in the first and second half respectively. Luna’s goal was his second in as many games, with the 17-year-old having been handed a second consecutive start by Head Coach Mark Lowry after impressing previously off the bench. Locomotive FC’s defense has provided the backbone to the club’s undefeated start to the season and has recorded four consecutive shutouts, halfway to the Championship’s record of eight set by Rio Grande Valley FC in the 2016 season. The side is also now undefeated in its past 16 regular-season contests as it completes its two-game week on Saturday night, dating back to last August when it last suffered defeat against Phoenix Rising FC.

@SwitchbacksFC (1-2-1, 4pts) will try to end both of those streaks as it looks for a second victory of the season after narrowly missing out on all three points in its most recent contest. The Switchbacks took an early lead against San Antonio FC last Saturday night at Weidner Field as Hadji Barry recorded his fourth goal of the season, but a late equalizer by the visitors left the side to settle for a 1-1 draw. Colorado Springs has struggled in its prior trips to El Paso, having last season suffered a pair of defeats to make it three visits without claiming a point at Southwest University Park. The club’s new lineup will be hoping to change that and find a way to move up from its current position at the foot of the Mountain Division standings.
