Playoff contenders Miami, RGV square off for interconference matchup at FIU Stadium

Miami FC's Sean McFarlane scored in the side's victorious last outing as the side prepares to host Rio Grande Valley FC and Josue Soto at FIU Stadium on Sunday evening.

MIAMI – Miami FC plays host to Rio Grande Valley FC on Sunday evening at FIU Stadium in an interconference matchup that sees the hosts looking to build on victory last time out and the visitors aiming to maintain top spot in the Mountain Division. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.

@TheMiamiFC (3-2-0, 9pts) took its third victory of the season last Saturday night as it defeated the Charlotte Independence 2-1 on home turf as Adonijah Reid scored the winner with 16 minutes to go. Miami has alternated wins and losses to start its second season in the Championship, but currently sits in second place in the Atlantic Division after five games. The hosts will be missing five players on international duty on Sunday night, with the Jamaican trio of Speedy Williams, Lamar Walker and Rahshaun Anglin being joined by Othello Bah (Liberia) and Billy Forbes (Turks & Caicos) in earning call-ups, which could provide a test of the side’s depth.

@RGVFC (3-1-1, 10pts) grabbed a point in its last outing as a spectacular finish by Juan Carlos Azocar earned the side a 1-1 draw with South Texas Derby rival San Antonio FC last Saturday night at Toyota Field. The Toros are looking to get back into the win column after going two games without following a three-game winning streak to start the season. The contest will likely mark the 100th regular-season appearance in the Championship for midfielder Rodrigo Lopez, who currently leads the team with 10 Key Passes this season, while goalkeeper Tyler Deric is tied for third in the Championship with 17 saves so far this campaign, and the side will again have forward Elvis Amoh available for selection following his absence due to suspension against San Antonio.
