COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC returns to action at Weidner Field on Saturday night as it plays host to San Antonio FC, which will be looking to maintain its solid start to the new season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
@SwitchbacksFC (1-2-0, 3pts) plays its second game at its new 8,000-seat downtown home after suffering a 3-1 defeat to New Mexico United in its opening game on May 21. Forward Hadji Barry got the hosts out to an ideal start with a goal in just the second minute, but the hosts were unable to push on after going behind despite having a man-advantage for the final 35 minutes of the contest as United held firm defensively. Barry has recorded three goals in three games to start the season, while Michee Ngalina is one of a cluster of players sitting tied for third in the Championship with two assists. The Switchbacks will be hoping to have shown progress after having suffered a 3-0 defeat to San Antonio on May 1 in their opening game of the season at Toyota Field.
@SanAntonioFC (2-1-2, 8pts) will be looking to get back into the win column on Saturday night, meanwhile, after being denied victory last weekend as a late equalizer by Rio Grande Valley FC produced a 1-1 draw in the second South Texas Derby of the season. San Antonio’s Marcus Epps had put the hosts ahead in the first half, but the side was unable to capitalize on other chances despite holding an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal for the game. San Antonio will be without midfielder Emil Cuello on Saturday as he serves a one-game suspension following his red card against the Toros, and the visitors will be hoping for a more fruitful result than their last trip to Colorado Springs which saw the Switchbacks take a 1-0 win early in the 2019 season.
