New Mexico looks to rebound as it heads to face winless Monarchs at Zions Bank Stadium

Real Monarchs SLC's Sam Brown and New Mexico United's Sergio Rivas will lead their sides in Friday night's clash at Zions Bank Stadium that sees United aiming to continue its success from previous trips to Utah.

HERRIMAN, Utah – Real Monarchs SLC will welcome New Mexico United to Zions Bank Stadium on Friday night with the hosts looking for their first win of the season and the visitors aiming to bounce back from defeat last time out. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.

@RealMonarchs (0-2-2, 2pts) have had an up-and-down start to the new campaign, producing a positive performance to open with a draw on the road against San Antonio FC, but also recording only one goal in their past three contests to sit in last place in the Mountain Division. The side returns home has also gone winless in its last five home games at Zions Bank Stadium dating back to the 2020 season, a streak that began with a 2-0 defeat to New Mexico United on September 12, 2020. The Monarchs attacking struggles have been highlighted by their shot conversion rate, which sits at only 8.3 percent, a fact that’s also reflected in the club’s underperformance in Expected Goals, where it has a -2.02 differential between its goals (3) and Expected Goals (5.02) so far this season.

@NewMexicoUTD (2-2-1, 7pts) would move to the top of the Mountain Division on Friday night with a win as it looks to rebound from a 1-0 defeat to Loudoun United FC last Saturday night that left it three points back of Rio Grande Valley FC in the early stages of the season. United will have confidence as it heads to Utah, though, with the side having taken victory in all four of its contests against the Monarchs last season – all of which were played at Zions Bank Stadium as local protocols prohibited the side from playing home contests – while only conceding once. Amando Moreno led the way in that capacity, scoring four goals against the Monarchs a season ago, and will be hoping for more of the same on Friday night.
