Battery look for first win as Los Dos heads East for first meeting between clubs since 2014

The Charleston Battery's Ben Di Rosa and LA Galaxy II's Jorge Hernandez could square off on Friday night as their clubs meet for the first time since the 2014 USL Championship season at Patriots Point.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery will play host to the LA Galaxy II on Friday night in the second all-time meeting between the clubs after squaring off in Los Dos’ inaugural season in 2014. Kickoff at Patriots Point is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The @Chas_Battery (0-1-2, 2pts) have slipped into last place in the Atlantic Division after recording only two draws in their first three games of the season, most recently playing to a 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls II on May 23 in a game that saw the hosts let a two-goal halftime lead slip away. The side is set to be without defender AJ Paterson, who is on international duty with Grenada, and will be looking to break out of its slowest start to a season since the 2014 campaign, when it went six games before securing its first victory. The side could take inspiration from that season for its game against the Galaxy II, however, as the Battery took a 3-0 win when the sides met at MUSC Health Stadium that year as Dane Kelly and Colin Falvey were among the goalscorers, while one player in that lineup still remains with the side in veteran defender Jarad van Schaik.

The @LAGalaxyII (3-2-2, 11pts) have fared better than their Eastern Conference counterparts and will enter Friday night in second place in the Pacific Division after a compelling 4-3 victory against Orange County SC last Saturday night in their most recent outing. Los Dos have been the highest scoring side in the Championship so far this season with 15 goals in seven games, with Jorge Hernandez leading the club with Jorge Hernandez having recorded four goals and two assists to lead the way. Los Dos has also fared better on the road than at home this season, claiming victories in its prior two road outings against Real Monarchs SLC before this past weekend’s victory in Orange County. There are unsurprisingly no holdovers from the Galaxy II side that last faced the Battery, but Daniel Steres was a notable name from that fixture that has since gone on to make more than 125 appearances in Major League Soccer for the Galaxy.
