Lopez’s second-half goal results in 1-1 draw at Michael A. Carroll Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS – A second-half equalizer by Frank Lopez earned OKC Energy FC a share of the points in a 1-1 draw against Indy Eleven on Wednesday night at Michael A. Carroll Stadium that denied Indy a third consecutive victory.

The first meeting between the club’s opened evenly, and the first real look on goal didn’t arrived until the 11th minute when Gordon Wild did well to win a 50-50 ball against a defender to get into the right channel but couldn’t direct his finish on target as it sliced wide of the near post. Wild then provided a good delivery six minutes later off a free kick on the right, but Nedeljko Malic couldn’t direct his header toward goal as it slid wide of the left post.

The hosts began to carry more of the play as the half progressed, and in the 41st minute Wild went close after Nicky Law emerged past a pair of OKC defenders in the right corner before passing onto the penalty area for the German forward. Wild controlled and cut centrally onto his left foot, but his curling effort to the far post was turned wide by Energy FC goalkeeper CJ Cochran.

A minute later, however, Indy took the lead as from a corner on the right by Wild, Nick Moon arrived unmarked to meet the cross near the top of the six-yard area and power a header home that put the hosts ahead at the break.

OKC went without a shot on target in the first half, but just past the hour-mark Frank Lopez almost leveled for the visitors with an inventive finish after he won possession of a looping ball upfield on the left, spinning toward goal and firing a lobbed finish that may have caught Indy goalkeeper Jordan Farr off his line before it bounced wide of the right post. The Cuban forward struck with 20 minutes to go, however, as Roberto Coronado sent a low cross from the left toward the top of the six-yard area and Lopez was able to get on the end of it with a sliding finish to the right corner of the net.

Indy got back on the front foot as it tried to regain the lead and Wild fired a low shot Cochran comfortably handled with 15 minutes to go, but neither side strongly threatened to find a winner in the final 10 minutes as the visitors claimed their fourth point of the season.
